SOMERSET -- The Old Rochester Regional girls volleyball team came right out and attacked in yesterday's Division II tournament match against No.1 seed Somerset, but the Blue Raiders held strong, eliminating the Lady Bulldogs from the postseason in three games, 30-18, 30-19, 30-21.

Jen Parker got things started quickly for ORR (11-8), staring off with three service points and two aces to jump out to an early lead in Game 1.

Julianna Gonzalez kept that momentum up on the Lady Bulldogs' next trip to the service line with four consecutive service points, including an ace and a kill from Sara White.

The eighth-seeded Bulldogs held the lead in the first game till the midway point, when Somerset finally took the lead at 16-15, which they would hold for the remainder of the game.

Game two saw Somerset (19-2) jump out to a big lead at first, but ORR refused to go down easily fighting back to within four points in some spots, but the big hits of Somerset again proved to be the deciding factor.

Gonzalez again went on a nice service run early in Game 3 with another ace and three points to give ORR the lead again, which it would hold until Somerset made the score 16-15 again.

Somerset eventually held on for the win and an advance in the tournament.

White and Kelly Boivan each had big days up front as White picked eight kills and three digs on defense, while Boivan had five blocks and four kills at the net.

Gonzalez would finish the day with eight points and three aces from the service line, but also picked up five digs on defense along with two blocks and two kills at the net.

Katherine Robertson proved to be essential in setting up ORR's front line with eight assists, while Kelsey Collasius picked up two kills and one block, Kendra Gomes with three digs on defense and Gayle Almeida with one block and one dig.
